Healthy Aging and a Good Night's Sleep

Healthy Aging and a Good Night's Sleep
Healthy Aging is getting good night's sleep

As we grow older, we need to stay active to keep our bodies and system in shape. The older a person gets the less our bodies want to function so keeping it in shape is very important for all of us, even the younger people.

Sleeping is very important to all of us as we are aging. Aging brings on a different sleep pattern and we need to learn how to control it so when it is time to sleep we sleep well. It is normal as we age that it becomes harder to get a good nights sleep and feel rested when we wake up. Sleeping is as important as our diet and activities.

Did you know that it is hard for woman to sleep more so than men in their aging years?  Women have more tendencies to feel stressed out more and they sometimes are just too busy to get themselves into an exercising routine. If you don't get enough sleep at night, it will reduce your alertness during the day because you're tired. Long periods of sleepless nights can cause high blood pressure and isn't good for the heart either.

There are many reasons why some people can't achieve a restful nights sleep. Sometimes you might sleep but it is a light sleep and we need to have a deep restful REM sleep. Sometimes you may awaken during the night from pain perhaps caused from arthritis. Sometimes you may experience heartburn, which causes you to get less sleep. Snoring or feeling depressed sometimes can also cause you to loose sleep. You may have a stressful day followed by the lack of sleep. Muscles spasms can also cause a person to loose sleep.

How you can reduce the problems that cause you to loose sleep:

Caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine can cause us to lose sleep. Try not to drink liquids before going to bed, and stop smoking.  Smoking not only harmful to your body but it can cause you to lose sleep. Excessive noise in the house, the TV or radio in the bedroom and snoring are some more reasons that can keep us from sleeping. Don't try to go to bed and watch TV or listen to the radio; this will only keep you awake longer.

Healthy Aging and a Good Night's Sleep
You can learn to enjoy exercises to reduce muscles spasms and/or arthritic symptoms. You can also reduce eating unhealthy foods that cause heartburn, or drinking caffeine-based substances before you go to bed to improve your sleeping pattern.

Do you have a pet that sleeps with you?  Even though you think they are giving you comfort it could cause you to lose that precious sleep you need. You may not realize it but everytime your pet moves, maybe snores; you can hear this while sleeping. Maybe you might have to get your pet a bed and let him sleep on the floor next to you. If you have allergies, your pet may be the cause, which can make you loose sleep as well.

Napping is not good if you take one during the day for more than 25 minutes. I realize that maybe your not getting enough sleep during the night and you get tired in the afternoon. However, when you lie down during the day and sleep for a long time, when it is time to go to bed, you've had just enough sleep that you're not as tired.

Before you lie down to rest, you should also consider drinking a warm glass of milk. Studies have shown that warm milk helps a person to relax.

Benefits of Liquid Vitamins

Benefits of Liquid Vitamins
Vitamins and minerals can be absorbed by the body in a number of ways. They first enter our body through the food we eat. Secondly, we can take vitamin supplements to increase the amount of pertinent vitamins and minerals. There are different methods of taking medication and one of the most common methods is absorbing it in its liquid form. Do the advantages of liquid vitamins far outweigh its disadvantages – if there are any? Read on and find out.

Better or Easier Absorption for Kids

Although liquid vitamins may taste worse than vitamins in flavored, chewable tablet forms, they are however easier to absorb. There are numerous cases in which children have problems with choking, breathing and swallowing simply because of their inability to absorb medication or vitamins in this form.

This is the same problem as well for adults who have lost their ability to control their jaws or are unable to digest anything that is not in liquid form.

Liquid Vitamins are More Effective

Because of its form, liquid vitamins can be assimilated immediately into the blood stream for a more systemic administration of the vitamin and its average absorption rate is approximately 90 to 98%. It is also three to five times more concentrated than vitamin pills and this lead to higher bio-activity and greater therapeutic benefits.

The Link between Antioxidants and Liquid Vitamins

Have you ever wondered whether or not liquid vitamins contained oxidants as well? Vitamins E, C and A are examples of antioxidants and they are commonly found in vitamin supplements but what about liquid vitamins?

Kids Liquid Vitamins
And the answer is an absolute YES. Liquid vitamins must in fact contain such antioxidants or they'll prove to be ineffective compared to other vitamins. Remember that the most important of all antioxidants - Vitamins A, C and E - are not internally produced by the body so they must be a regular fixture in our diet. Antioxidants are our main defense against effects of damaging oxidation reactions. Antioxidants are our best weapons against suffering from any form of cancer. Without it, we are basically weaker and less healthy.

Liquid Vitamins versus Digestive Acids

One reason why people refuse to acknowledge the benefits of liquid vitamins is because of the supposed destruction by digestive acids of any vitamin or mineral that it does not recognize as part of the process of digestion. The opposite is, in fact true. Our digestive system actually prefers or is able to better absorb liquid vitamins and minerals rather than those made in pill or capsule form.

A vitamin pill or tablet has to be digested completely before it can benefit the human body. It must be broken down into absorbable nutrients or only up to thirty percent of it will be absorbed by the human body. Liquid vitamins however provide a better and easier solution for the digestive system. Because it does not depend in any way on mechanical digestion, an estimated 90% of it can be absorbed directly by the body.

It's vital to remember that digestion does not mainly function to destroy vitamins and minerals but rather to transform them into substances it can use to improve the general constitution of the body.

Liquid Vitamins: Toxic or Not?

Another problem posed is the amount of colloidal minerals found in liquid vitamins. Are they harmful or not?

In truth, even plants and fruits contain a trace of such minerals in them. Apples, for instance, contain 3-5 mg of aluminum as it's one of the most abundant elements that can be found in the surface of the Earth. But do you hear anyone telling you that apples are dangerous to your health? On the contrary, what we are more likely to hear is that an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

And so it must be with liquid vitamins as well. Containing a slight amount of colloidal mineral doesn't mean it's bad for our health right away. Colloidal minerals, are above all else, naturally occurring elements and can not therefore be avoided.

You Have a Choice

At the end of the day, however, it's still up to you whether or not you wish to take vitamin supplements in liquid or solid form. What really matters is what you prefer and which will ultimately work better for you.

Why Breakfast Really is the Most Important Meal of the Day

Why Breakfast Really is the Most Important Meal of the Day
By now, I'm sure you've heard people say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However, that doesn't stop millions of Americans, and people around the world, from skipping breakfast or opting for only a drink of coffee. The truth is that breakfast really is the most important meal of the day, and you will have a much more healthy diet if you include breakfast in your daily life.

Breakfast is rightly named - break fast. When you sleep, you are not eating for 6 to 9 hours at least, and more if you haven't eaten since dinner the night before. Therefore, breakfast is the first time you'll be eating anything for a very long period of time. Some nutrients, like proteins, cannot be stored in the body and are therefore not present, so the body needs you to replenish the “low” levels of such nutrients. Breakfast is like the match that lights the fire. It truly is a very important source of energy for your body in the morning.

Eating breakfast in the morning also helps you avoid some illnesses and disease. For example, your sugar levels are probably out of whack from not eating for many hours, so having breakfast levels out the amount of sugars in your body, helping to prevent diabetes. Eating a healthy breakfast also helps you to provide food to your stomach so that you don't overeat at lunch because you are so hungry. Overeating leads to obesity, which comes with a whole host of problems, including heart disease.

Healthy Breakfast
Healthy breakfast foods, like eggs, fruit, or bran cereal are also a good source of many of the vitamins and minerals a person needs during the day. If you don't eat these things in the morning, it will be hard to make up for that loss later in the day. Remember that without the proper amounts of nutrients, you body will not function correctly. When you eat a healthy breakfast, it also makes you choose healthier foods during the rest of the day, so that you continue to get the proper nutrients needed for your body.

Setting aside 15 minutes in the morning to eat breakfast every day can truly make a great different in your diet. In the best case, your breakfast will include foods from at least three different food groups. For example, you can have whole grain toast (bread food group) with peanut butter (protein food group) and a banana (fruit food group).

Top that off with a glass of milk to drink, and you've even hit a fourth food group. Breakfast does not have to include a heavy pancakes and sausage meal every day to be healthy, and even grabbing a single piece of fruit or a muffin is better than skipping the meal completely. Breakfast is important to your health!

Choosing Discount Hearing Aids

Choosing Discount Hearing Aids
Hearing aids come in a variety of makes and models. They are worn in and on the ear in different ways. The ENT doctor, or otolaryngologist, will practically make the decisions for you if you allow it. If, however, you want to save yourself some money, you can march into the doctor's office with some information of your own. Discount hearing aids are one way to save yourself some money without sacrificing quality.

Many sellers offer discount hearing aids that are identical to the full priced hearing aids that you get directly from the manufacturer. Often, the only difference is the price, which may be half the price you pay the maker or even less. When you are looking into such a deal, make sure the two devices are actually the same in every respect except for price.

There are many features and parameters to check to make sure your discount hearing aids are the real thing. For one thing, if you want to buy a model that is a fully digital one, make sure the discount hearing aids are listed as 100 percent or fully or totally digital. Otherwise, you might end up with a model that has some components that are analog. This will give you less flexibility in the programming and processing of your aids.

Compare the number of frequency bands or channels. Having more will give your fitter more latitude in accommodating your hearing losses if they are not consistent through all the ranges. With more channels, your audiologist can give more amplification to the frequencies you have trouble hearing and less to the ones you don't. If the manufacturers' hearing aids' channels are not the same as your discount hearing aids', they will respond differently to programming.

Digital Hearing Aid
Carefully scrutinize the data of the two hearing aids to determine if both are actually the same model with the same directional microphone capabilities. Some brand names offer directional microphones in some of their models but not on others. If one has this feature and one doesn't, then the discount hearing aids you are looking at are not the same as the manufacturers' models that you suspect you are dealing with.

Another aspect of the hearing aids to be checked is whether they have memory presets and if so, how many and what kind are they. This will help you determine whether you your discount hearing aids are the same as the originals. More is not always better, as personal preferences vary, but just make sure to get the number and type of memory presets that you want.

You can become easily confused, if you're not careful, by the different styles of discount hearing aids. BTE, or behind the ear, hearing aids are readily available at lowered prices. You can also get the other varieties, and you should be aware if you are getting an ITE, or in the ear, hearing aid, which fits in the shell of your outer ear. Be sure to recognize the different ear canal varieties, such as IC, in the canal, and CIC, completely in the canal.

Finally, you will, of course, want to make sure you get the best price possible. Compare the prices of identical models and styles and make sure you get the best reliable deal. Just make sure there is a good policy on returns in case you are not happy with them. That, after all, is the most important factor in choosing discount hearing aids.
